CITY OF BOSTON RESIDENT PARKING PROGRAM
Many of the City’s residential streets are now “Resident Parking Only.” If you live in one of these neighborhoods, you need a permit to avoid getting a ticket. When you are approved for a permit, you will receive a sticker to place on your car.
There is no charge for Resident Parking permits.
You need to place the permit sticker in the rear window of your car on the passenger side. If your window is tinted, display your sticker on the side window of the front passenger side.
You need to pay all of your overdue parking tickets before applying for or renewing a permit.
HOW TO APPLY:
You may apply online at:
https://www.boston.gov/departments/parking-clerk/how-get-resident-parking-permit
OR
You may apply at City Hall with the Parking Clerk's Office.
1 City Hall Square, Room 224
Boston, MA 02201
Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
When you apply in person at City Hall — as long as you have all of your information — you'll get your resident permit that day.
You need to bring a valid Massachusetts registration. Your registration must show the car is registered and principally garaged in your name at your current Boston address.
You also need to bring valid proof of your Boston residency. New college students face the same requirements as new residents. There are a couple of different options to prove your residency, but whatever you use needs to have your name and Boston address. If you use a bill, it must be current (postmarked or dated within the last 30 days) and have the same name that appears on your car registration.

STREET SWEEPING PROGRAM
The City's Daytime Neighborhood Street Cleaning program currently runs from April 1 through November 30 for all neighborhoods except the North End, the South End, and Beacon Hill. The daytime program parking restrictions are not in effect during the months of December and March except in the North End, the South End, and Beacon Hill. There will be no posted street sweeping or program related parking enforcement during the months of January and February.
Mechanical sweepers operate weather-permitting. During the winter, street cleaning and parking restrictions are nighttime-only except in the North End, the South End, and Beacon Hill neighborhoods.
In the event that Public Works decides to cancel street sweeping and parking enforcement for weather related reasons, notifications will be sent out by e-mail to NO-TOW subscribers, or you may contact 311.
The Transportation Department handles ticketing and towing for street sweeping. In most cases, private companies working for the Transportation Department tow your car for parking in violation of the street sweeping regulations.
If you know your license plate number, you can search the city database at: https://www.cityofboston.gov/towing/search/
OR,
you can call the Boston Police Department at 617-343-4629 or the Boston Department of Transportation at 617-635-3900 to find out which company towed your car.
